Canine cross, neutered male, 3 years of age, presented with dyspnea and bilateral nasal discharge. Pulmonary radiographs reveal a miliary pattern. Microscopic examination (original magnification 1000x) from a pulmonary fine needle aspirate and from the nasal discharge reveal the presence of spherical microorganisms that are basophilic and measure between 8 and 15 micrometers in diameter. The morphology of these microorganisms is consistent with that of Blastomyces dermatitidis.
