Synovial fluid (1000X original magnification) from the femorotibial joint of a 4 year-old female Rottweiler presented for polyarthritis and lymphadenopathy. The synovial fluid was characterized by a moderate elevation of the white blood cell count (5120 X 10e6/L) and a marked elevation of the total proteins (4.2 g/dl). The predominant cells were neutrophils (70.5% of the total nucleated cell differential) indicating most likely, an immune-mediated process. The LE cells were rarely seen.
