A six month-old St-Bernard male dog showing a rapidly growing cervical mass was presented to the Small Animal Clinic of UdM. This mass measuring about 4 cm in diameter, located on the right side was soft and pulpy. A liquid is aspirated on fine needle aspiration. This liquid is lightly viscous and slightly of red colour. On microscopic examination of the smear, hematoidin crystals (A), macrophages (B), clumps of mucin (B) and erythrophagocytes (D) are observed. In the case of macrophages, it was difficult to differentiate them from epithelial cells of the salivary gland. |
