Morphology: on examination of blood smears, gametocytes of Hepatozoon canis are found in the cytoplasm of monocytes and neutrophils (arrow). This microorganism is found in the form of inclusion body which is transparent or lightly basophilic. THe gametocytes leave the cell immediately after the blood sample is taken. |
