Morphology: the presence of fat globules in the urine is a normal phenomenon and is not associated with lipemia. These structures do not take up the staining and are perfectly round but vary in diameter. The globules are more abundant in the cat than in the dog (1,2,3). These globules could have been derived from degenerated renal tubular cells (1). They could also be an artefact caused by the use of lubricant. They must be differentiated from red blood cells. These fat globules could be more abundant in case of diabetes mellitus or nephrotic syndrome (2).
