Morphology: calcium oxalate monohydrate crystals are seen in the case of ethylene glycol (antifreeze) toxicity(1). These crystals vary in size and may have a spindle (left) or dumbbell (right) shape. They are encountered at any pH but mainly at acidic pH. These crystals could sometimes be observed in very small number in combination with calcium oxalate dihydrate even when an animal has not ingested ethylene glycol.
