Osteoclasts

Wright's stain, 400x

The osteoclast is a multinucleated cell that plays several roles, among them, bone resorption. It should not be confused with other nucleated cells such as giant cells (which are macrophages) or megakaryocytes, which are platelet precursors. Some neoplasms are also associated with the formation of multinucleated cells.
