Fundamental research

Fundamental research projects based on virulence factors of various food-borne pathogens such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria, Enterococcus and E. coli; the development of antimicrobial resistance of different bacteria, the use of growth factors in animal production and/or antibiotic alternatives.

Applied research projects based on molecular epidemiology, vaccine development and improvement of biotechnological tools for detecting foodborne pathogens.

Scientific and technical support

The RCMS is responsive to industry requirements by suggesting scientific approaches and support for technology transfer: for example, the use of an integrated HACCP-CQATM type approach in pork, in accordance with governmental risk analysis policies or the design of an information program on the judicious use of antibiotics in pig farms.

Training of skilled professionals from undergraduate to graduate level at the faculty of veterinary medicine.
