Determination of the microbiological composition of recycled solid manure bedding in the cattle production, based on livestock production and management practices In Quebec, there is a growing interest in recycled solid manure (RSM) as a bedding, but his use and his microbiota are poorly documented. This bedding is obtained by solid-liquid separation of manure from dairy cows followed by composting. The bedding obtained values the dietary fibre not assimilated by the cow. However, some risks may be considered, such as the introduction or growth of pathogens under the cow, which can lead to health problems and contaminate the milk. During my project, I will describe the microbiota of RSM and of conventional straw as well as the evolution of microbial diversity of each bedding by molecular biology and bacteriology approaches to compare them. Also, I will evaluate the potential of RSM as a support for the growth of pathogenic bacteria of interest in cattle production for research purpose. Read more |
