Fermenter Transposition of an In Vitro Model of Intestinal Pig Flora for the Modulation of this Ecosystem, by or Without Supplementation of Food Additives and Food Pathogens

 

For the last couple of years, there was a marked interest in the study of the microbiota. However, the study of the animals’ system can be both a costly and tedious procedure. To circumvent such problems, I’m working to set-up a bioreactor to mimic physicochemical conditions (pH, temperature, oxygen levels) of the pig intestine, in the hope of obtaining an In Vitro model of the intestinal microbiota similar to that of the animal model. The bioreactor will use synthetic digestate as a culture broth. Then, I will be able to evaluate the effect of different additives or pathogens on the intestinal microbiota. The results obtained during this project will give the industrials information on the modulation of the microbiota and reduce Salmonella, avoiding its presence on meat after slaughter.
