Research opportunity for students

Adjusted milking during the early lactation for controlling the negative energy balance and its consequences.
For years, we have tried to control the deleterious impacts of pronounce negative energy balance during early lactation of dairy cows by increasing energy concentration of their diet. Recent studies, however, suggested that such control could potentially be achieved by reducing the needs (i.e. by reducing milk production) during a very short period of time and this, without negative impacts on subsequent milk production. The objective of the proposed study is to estimate the effect of such management strategy on incidence of diseases, on reproductive performances, on milk production, and on culling risk in regular commercial dairies.
Our research team is looking for one PhD candidate and one MSc student in veterinary science - epidemiology option. Research scholarships of up to $30,000/year are available for the recruited candidates. Note that these scholarships can potentially be complemented by additional scholarships obtained by the candidates. Furthermore, these research scholarships are not subject to any Canadian or provincial income taxesand, therefore, represent a net salary. Please contact me for additional information.
