The laboratory for the serology of porcine pleuropneumonia at the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the Université de Montréal was founded in1985 and is internationally acclaimed.
- The laboratory uses an ELISA-based method developed by scientists at GREMIP that allows the detection of antibodies against A. pleuropneumoniae serotypes 1 to 15 :
- As a quality control, we use purified antigens produced in our laboratory.
- Annually, we analyze more than 35 000 serum samples that come mostly from Quebec and Ontario, as well as other Canadian provinces and USA as well.
- We also boast the ability to detect the presence of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in tissues (lungs, tonsils) of healthy carrier animals by using magnetic beads, as well as monoclonal, polyclonal antibodies and PCR tests.
