RESEARCH THEMES

• Prevalence of Campylocbacter in slaughterhouse pigs and evaluation of the risk associated with its presence.
• Epidemiology of Campylobacter in chicken.
• Epidemiology and survival of Cryptosporidium parvum in the environment.
• Control of Salmonella infection in pigs.
• Use of antimicrobial agents and development of resistance in porcine bacterial strains.
• Investigation of proteins implicated in the adherence of Streptococcus suis.

ACHIEVEMENTS

• Improve knowledge on the epidemiology of principal food pathogens in farms.
• Optimize techniques for the detection of food pathogens in slaughterhouses.
• Characterize the human risk for the presence of some bacterial strains in poultry.
• Develop of a serologic assay to screen the presence of Salmonella in healthy carrier pigs.
• Develop a serologic assay to screen the presence of Yersinia enterocolitica in healthy carrier pigs
• Develop a vaccine against S. suis infections.
