CBMRN Study Opportunities

Title of the project: Adjusted milking during the early lactation for controlling negative energy balance and its consequences in dairy cows.

Summary:
The objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of an incomplete milking during the first week of lactation, but without any alteration of the milking frequency, on: 1) serum BHBA concentrations; 2) incidence of metabolic and infectious diseases (including subclinical and clinical mastitis); 3) Reproductive performance; 4) milk production; and 5) culling risk. Economic relevance of the management strategy will also be formally evaluated.

Candidates are expected to have a DVM, animal science, or similar relevant degree. Research scholarships of up to $30,000/year are available for the recruited candidates dependent on their skills and experience.
